We study the palaeontological heritage of the Charente basin, preserve its fossils and share advances in research.

THE ASSOCIATION

Paléocharente

Our association brings professional researchers and amateur palaeontologists together to study and promote the palaeontological and palaeoecological heritage of the Charente basin. From excavations to public collections, we work together to advance knowledge.

A HERITAGE TO EXPLORE

Traces of a
lost world

Bones, fossil plants and sediments reveal ancient ecosystems. Each field season opens new avenues of research.

FIELD SEASONS

2010 · The discovery of Angeac

In January 2010, Jean-Pierre Paillot, an excavator operator with Audoin, brought large bones to the surface. The first excavation campaign was organised that same year.

2017 · Sharing discoveries

In 2017, the exhibition Dinosaures, les géants du vignoble introduced our research to the public. Exhibitions, events, drawings and publications help us share this endeavour.

Sixteen years of fieldwork · Discoveries to share

The first sixteen years of fieldwork total 900 m² excavated and 120,000 remains collected. Each field season expands our understanding of ancient organisms and environments.

MEET · DISCOVER · EXPLORE

Sharing discoveries

At the museum, on the excavation site and in the streets of Angoulême, discoveries from Angeac are shared with everyone. Exhibitions, guided tours and events introduce fossils, animals and the work of the teams.
